SLM Supports Make Music Day June 21st Event

Posted on June 14, 2018

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI – St. Louis Music is thrilled to be participating in Make Music Day 2018, a celebration of music on the summer solstice that will take place in thousands of locations around the world. To celebrate MMD in true St Louis fashion, a group of SLM employees (known as the St. Louis Music All-Stars) will be in the UCity Loop at the Chuck Berry statue, honoring the “father of rock n roll” by playing a selection of his tunes and raising awareness for Make Music Day.

“The Make Music Day worldwide festival is such a wonderful event, and this year we’re getting involved in a bigger way,” says Mark Ragin, President and CEO of St. Louis Music.  “The All-Stars will be at UCity Loop raising awareness, and of course playing instruments right off the shelves from SLM.  Our friends at Latin Percussion have provided egg shakers and chickitas to be handed out to anyone on the Loop’s bustling sidewalks that wishes to join in.”

Make Music Day was started in France in 1982, and was first conceived as a national holiday to celebrate music on the summer solstice.  Over 30 years later the fête has become a true national holiday in France, and one that has spread to over 120 countries throughout the world.  (In the U.S., Make Music Day is presented by the NAMM Foundation).

SLM encourages its dealers to visit www.makemusicday.org/media/where they can view a toolkit explaining how to create their own Make Music Day event, which can include anything from hosting a drum circle or guitar strum to instrument-making events for small children or a battle of the bands event.

Dealers and friends of SLM are encouraged to visit www.makemusicday.org/media/to learn how to get involvedor write to Aaron Friedman at [email protected]
