Alvarez Expands Bluegrass Masterworks with MD70BG Dreadnought

April 17th 2021

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI – – Alvarez is thrilled to introduce new editions to their bluegrass line of masterworks series, the acoustic MD70BG and acoustic-electric MD70EBG. In 2018 Alvarez launched the MD60BG – their take on a Bluegrass styled Dreadnought with modern dynamics for Flatpickers and players looking for optimal full tone. The MD60BG has become one of Alvarez’s best-selling guitars – This Rosewood version takes power and clarity to a new level.

“We have been very inspired by the success of our genre-specific bluegrass series,” Says Chris Meikle, Senior VP at St. Louis Music and head of Alvarez development.  “With the MD70BG, we are delivering a guitar perfect for flatpicking.  We spent time designing the bracing system to enhance our bass and mids, making the guitar very responsive to play with a plectrum.  We believe flatpickers and fans of the genre are going to pick up this guitar and love it immediately.”

The MD70BG’s response is instant, and its notes are clear and robust. The rosewood helps deliver sonorous bass frequencies which is complemented by shimmering trebles. When strumming, the FS6 bracing system and AAA Sitka top help deliver clarity and separation, and balance is clearly audible across all six strings.

These beautifully dressed guitars pay tribute to traditional Bluegrass instruments with open gear nickel tuners, classic inlays, premium tortoiseshell style pickguard and a flawless gloss finish.

Part of the all-solid wood Masterworks Series, the MD70BG and the electronics model MD70BG feature AA Grade Solid Sitka Spruce Tops, with Solid African Mahogany Backs & Sides.  The bracing system is a Back Shifted Scalloped X Brace, perfect for flatpicking.  MD70BG is finished in a natural gloss and the MD70EBG features LR Baggs electronics.
