P. Mauriat Unveils the Incredible Master Series 97A

January 12th 2015

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI – In the winter of 2011, the P. Mauriat team began designing a horn that could thrive in the hands of both professional classical musicians and commercial musicians. 3 years later their work has created the most innovative P. Mauriat Saxophone yet: the Master Series 97A Alto saxophone.

“We were convinced we could improve our altos in three key ways,” Says Craig Denny, Vice President – Band and Orchestra at St. Louis Music. “Intonation was a big focus, but we also concentrated on ergonomics and making sure the 97A was as sonically pure as we could make it.”

Denny worked closely with Randy Jones, renowned saxophone expert and owner of Tenor Madness in Waterloo, Iowa. Together they created many prototypes that Denny would fly to Taiwan to present to the P. Mauriat team. It was a process of fine-tuning that paid off in what Denny calls “…the most groundbreaking instrument we’ve ever made.”

The Master-97A Alto Saxophone is unique among duo alloy horns, featuring two sterling silver octave pips that add an element of denseness and warmth, along with the shimmer of a yellow brass body, bow, and bell. The Master-97A features premium Pisoni pro 105 pads for a great tactile experience, and nylon resonators to improve tone.

And of course the Master-97A has an incredible aesthetic, finished in a honey-gold lacquer with traditional mother of pearl key touches. The bow and bell are engraved with traditional floral patterns by hand for a true, genuine, artisan look. The P. Mauriat Master-97A Alto Saxophone will be available at all authorized P. Mauriat dealers starting January 1st. MSRP: $5,099.00
