Downbeat Magazine is one of the leading Jazz publications in the United States and holds both a critics and readers poll each year to determine excellence in Jazz performance and composition.

Winners of both the Downbeat critics poll and its annual readers poll have the chance to be entered into the Downbeat Jazz Hall of Fame. P. Mauriat artists awarded included Hamiet Bluiett, Marcus Strickland, Ben Williams, Greg Osby, Braxton Cook, Christian Scott aTunde, Dudley Owens, Jason Marshall, John Wojciechowski, Terell Stafford, Geof Bradfield, and James Carter.
