John Mayer’s Saxophonist Bob Reynolds Chooses P. Mauriat

posted July 21, 2011 in Featured News, news

Big news: acclaimed tenor saxophonist Bob Reynolds has chosen to play P. Mauriat’s new Un-lacquered System 76 2nd Edition tenor saxophone. The latest endorsee to the P. Mauriat family performs and records with guitarist John Mayer. Reynolds also has an acclaimed career as a jazz recording artist, and his 2006 album “Can’t Wait for Perfect” was voted Best Debut in the Village Voice’s jazz poll. He’s also been honored with four ASCAP Young Jazz Composer awards.

“The reason I practice is to make my saxophone disappear,” says Bob Reynolds. “I want to focus on music, not equipment. The System 76 2nd Edition, like all great instruments, is transparent. It gets out of the way and allows me to just play.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Bob because he is a triple threat,” says Craig Denny, P. Mauriat brand director. “He is an amazing musician, a gifted composer, and a fantastic educator. His online lesson series is clear, concise, and filled with great information. It’s not only valuable to all players, but provides the steps on how to get your foot in the door as a leader.” Denny adds that Reynolds has picked up the System 76 un-lacquered tenor because it’s simply a “player’s horn. It has a clear voice, fluid keywork, and was drawn to the sheer amount of fun-factor it offers. This horn is pure joy.”

Reynolds started playing saxophone at the age of 13, and studied with George Garzone and Hal Crook at the Berklee College of Music. Joshua Redman says Reynolds “is an amazing musician, with something very exciting and original to say.” Rolling Stone Magazine has called him a “perfect foil” for Mayer’s playing. For his solo jazz work, which includes three acclaimed and best-selling albums, the New York Times has said he’s “a self-assured saxophonist and an unassuming yet effective composer.”
